Fathers Day Awards Ceremony

Father’s love is like a mountain, simple but profound. Confucius once said, “While a man’s father is alive, look at the bent of his will; when his father is dead, look at his conduct. If for three years he does not alter from the way of his father, he may be called filial”. A father’s physical actions, words and teachings affect his child deeply… The annual Father’s Day is coming up, and we are going to host a father’s day special event for our dear fathers.

For this year’s Father’s Day event, we took a new approach of a video contest to collect videos of dads telling their stories. By asking dads to tell stories about their past, the campaign will evoke genuine gratitude for the fathers. The campaign hopes that dads can recall their past efforts and breakthroughs in the context of the times, which inspires their kids in a positive and valuable way. We hope this event will start a trend of remembering father’s kindness in Toronto and revisit the traditional Chinese filial piety.

The campaign is open to collect submissions from May 22 to June 15, 2022, on WeChat. The contest selection process will take place from June 15 to June 18. The public will vote through links from our WeChat post to choose the top three videos, and our professional judges will select the five most touching videos. There will be awards for the top 3 best works selected by the public and 5 outstanding works chosen by the judges. There are also participation awards for all participants who submitted their videos. Participants and winners can pick up their prizes at the award ceremony at the Canada Multicultural Centre. All entries will be displayed on the CMCC website and WeChat platform.

On the day of Father’s Day, June 19, 2022, an award ceremony for the “Dads Telling Stories” event will take place. Many activities will happen during the ceremony, including an exhibition of the winning entries, a tea tasting ceremony, and performances presented by our senior community members. This whole cultural exhibition event has also received support from the community and legislators, with co-organizers such as Miracle Seniors Centre, 108 Health Promotion Association, Dulan Evergreen Seniors Club and Anhu Academy. A number of videos have been received from the participants, with very touching content.
