Does it cost anything for my child to attend school in Ontario?

The short answer is no, it does not cost anything for your child to attend publicly funded schools. However, there are things to be aware of. For one, private schools are almost all not free and you will need to pay the institution to attend a private school. Also after secondary school education, you way want your child to pursue higher education, this is also not free.

In Ontario there are 4 publicly-funded school systems. There is no tuition cost to send your child to one of these schools. Mostly of the times textbooks will be provided, however, students are still responsible for bringing their own stationery such as pencils, binders, paper, etc. You also may need to pay for your child’s school trip, but this is primary optional if your child attends the trip.

You have the option of sending your child to a private or independent school. These schools also offer elementary and secondary education. They do not receive government funding, and usually students must pay to attend them.
